APPLICATIONS & SOLUTIONS
Water is vital to the upstream extraction and downstream processing of oil and gas. Energy production accounts for the second largest use of water globally, after agriculture. As many of the world’s largest reserves reside in water-starved regions, it is essential to develop sustainable solutions for increasing production while decreasing water use.

Upstream
The extraction of oil and gas generates produced water, which is the largest volume waste stream associated with the recovery process. Produced water contains high levels of dissolved organic compounds, suspended solids, heavy metals, and injection chemicals. Especially in water stressed regions, it is becoming increasing important to treat and reuse produced water.
- Jacobi’s activated carbons and adsorbents effectively remove dissolved organic compounds.
- Jacobi’s ion exchange resins and metal chelators are effective at removing heavy metals.
Downstream
Refineries typically use 1 to 2 gallons of water to produce each gallon of fuel and consume about 10% of the energy value in production. Most of the water is for boiler feed, process, and cooling tower use. Jacobi’s resins for industrial water treatment provide refineries cost-effective solutions to manage their water requirements.

OIL & GAS: PROCESSES
Desulfatation
Removal of sulfate from e.g. drinking water.
Mercury removal
Selective mercury removal from Drinking water, ground water and Industrial water.
Brine softening
Removal of high concentration of calcium and magnesium as well as other earthalkali metals (e.g barium, strontium,..) in brine solution used in chloro-alkali processes for chlorine production.
Boron removal
Heavy metal removal from Drinking water, ground water, sea water and Industrial water.
Heavy metal removal
Heavy metal removal from Drinking water, ground water and Industrial water.
OIL & GAS: PRODUCTS
Chelating Resins
Specialist resins for ion exchange processes where there is a high presence of competing ions.
W A C
WAC are polyacrylic, gel or macro ion exchange beads. They have the unique carboxylic acid functions.
Weak Based Anion
Weak base anion resins are bead sized co-polymers (mainly polystyrene-divinylbenzene) with tertiary ammonium groups, which are usually macroporous in structure.
